Little Fish Beer Archive: Every beer we have ever brewed

This is a history of every beer ever brewed at Little Fish Brewing Company. We are constantly improving our recipes, creating new recipes, brewing interesting one-off beers, and collaborating with friends. Have a look!

Wha’ Me Eat – Cucumba

We brewed this farmhouse ale with our friends at Yellow Springs Brewery. Ohio malts from Haus Malts, Comet hops, and a huge amount of locally grown cucumbers from Cowdery farms went into this unique brew.

Smoked Helles

Beechwood-smoked light lager.

Smoked Helles is a crisp, light lager with a moderate to intense (depending on your tolerance level) beechwood smoke character. The smoke comes from Weyermann beechwood-smoked malt, which makes up 40% of the grist (the rest is standard pilsner malt). It’s hopped with a light dose of noble hops, and fermented to dryness with our preferred house lager ... Read More

Down Yon Holler

Over a year ago, our neighbor Pete, who lives “down the holler” from us on Armitage Road, called to let us know we could come pick some peaches for brewing if we were so inclined. His white peaches, in addition to some yellow peaches from another secret forage spot, went into a couple of oak barrels that were souring up ... Read More

Estate #2

Our Estate series features ingredients grown right here on our property. Estate #2 is a very special & unique beer. This amber sour ale was fermented in a barrel that was first used for bourbon, then Hawk Knob hard apple cider. Then we soured Woodthrush in it. After about a year, we added fresh pressed apple cider from the trees ... Read More

You Wanted A Hit

Hazy I.P.A.

It took us a while to catch on to the hazy I.P.A. trend. We have mixed feelings about their place in the craft beer market, and the hype surrounding them. There’s too much emphasis right now on a single style that, compared to a barrel-aged sour beer that takes years to finish, just really isn’t that hard to brew, ... Read More

100% Ohio-grown saison with wildflower honey

Poisson Grand is the strongest of our line of saisons (consisting of Petit Poisson, Saison du Poisson, and Poisson Grand). The name means “Big Fish”, in French.

The mash consists of Haus Malts pilsner & pale, and “honey” barley malt, wheat and oat malts. The hops vary a lot based on availability, but the latest ... Read More

Pomegranate-Raspberry Reinheitsgewhat!?

“Reinheitsgewhat!?” is a series of beers inspired by German Berliner weisse. However, it leaves the malt-hops-water-yeast constrictions of the Reinheitsgebot behind. We actually use no hops, but rely on acidity and interesting herbs or spices to provide a counterbalance to the beer’s sweetness. Many, but not all, contain fruit.

This batch was brewed with Ohio barley & wheat, pomegranate & raspberry ... Read More

This English Dark Mild is dark but crushable, flavorful but light in alcohol. Props to the guy who taught us so much in our homebrew days, Jamil Zainacheff, a.k.a. Mr. Malty.

Beechwood Lightest

Taking a cue from a certain American lager that is transported by Clydesdales and aged on steam-neutralized beechwood, we took a keg of “Our Lightest Beer” and aged it on hand-toasted beechwood staves. The wood flavor is subtle but evident!

Arthouse #45

We brew a special batch of beer every year for the Athens International Film and Video Festival, currently in its 45th consecutive year. In keeping with the spirit of independent and experimental film, we try to really push out boundaries on this beer, and brew something with ingredients that are new to us. This year’s beer is an “Oyster Mushroom ... Read More

Brewed as a tribute to our logistics coordinator, Gus Schmillen (the guy who delivers and cleans our kegs, but so much more); This “Single Malt and Single Hop” ale is brewed with only Ohio-grown pilsner malt from Hausmalts, Michigan-grown Cashmere hops from Top Hops, Conan ale yeast, and the finest Athens City artisan well water. Sharpshin

This sour blond ale was aged for over a year in barrels that held “Bourbon Barrel Aged Cider” from our friends at Hawk Knob Cidery and Meadery. We named it after the Sharp-shinned Hawk, which is one of the raptor species that we see around the brewery quite a bit. We find that the cider and light bourbon notes play ... Read More

Home Slice

Home Slice was brewed with true friends and comrades of the local foods movement. Todd, head brewer and partner at Fonta Flora, shared his expertise in brewing kvass (fermented bread) inspired beers. Christine and Bob, of The Village Bakery, provided us with a whopping 275 pounds of organic sourdough bread, and a sourdough starter with which we fermented the ... Read More
