Kalsarikännit
Baltic Porter.
Kalsarikännit: “Untranslatable” Finnish word for “getting drunk at home in your underwear, with no intention of going out”. The perfect vibe for this Eastern European style that’s all about comfort. The smooth flavor belies its formidable strength. It’s a lager, not an ale, so the emphasis is much more on the malty richness than outright roast, like a stout.
Flavor profile: Aroma of rich bread crust & caramelized sugar, soft fruit aromas including prune & port wine. Deep bready flavor, with burnt-raisin caramelized sugar, and a soft, lightly roasty finish. Smooth mouthfeel with warming alcohols when young (that lessen with age).
